OTHERS_CITABLE Transparency of the cornea as a clear window on the front surface of the eye is an important issue in visual system that a number of ocular surface diseases affect this. The human ocular surface is constructed by two various types of epithelia: the corneal epithelium in center and the conjunctival epithelium that surrounds this. These two epithelia are separated by limbal epithelium which is known as a major source of stem cells. The limbal stem cells (LSCs) provide the source of corneal epithelial renewal and also provide a promising approach to treat chronic epithelial defects on the corneal surface.
